This is in stark contrast with the tech habits of parents, among whom 43% stated they never used technology in the car when they were young. In addition to the wide and prolonged use of technology on long car journeys, the study found that only 37% of children complained of boredom, compared to 42% of parents when they were young.
Among the ways parents used to entertain themselves on long car journeys in their youth, car games, such as Eye Spy, proved to be the most common (56%). 52% of parents would also spend most of the time reading, while 51% would chat with family members. While car games are still popular among children today, with 44% playing them, the majority (62%) spend most of the time using tablets, smartphones or other personal devices.
The extent to which technology plays a huge role in car journey entertainment was made even more apparent as 42% of respondents said that their children would be unhappy about going on long car journeys without any form of tech. When asked for their thoughts on in-car tech, 59% of UK parents said that this was important, with 69% agreeing that tech features were useful in preventing boredom among their children. PEUGEOT offers a range of technological features across its model range, including ChatGPT® integrated into the i-Connect Advanced infotainment system, allowing parents and kids to invent stories, create quizzes and provide entertainment on the road, as well as games, such as Hangman or Tic Tac Toe.

Through PEUGEOT's Wireless Mirror Screen technology, music and podcasts are available to listen to via Apple CarPlay™ or Android Auto – a win for the whole family. Models, such as the 3008, are also available with a 10-speaker FOCAL® Premium Hi-Fi System, ensuring exceptional sound quality for all occupants.
The survey also found that the average number of miles parents would drive before stopping is 123, while the total distance they are prepared to drive in one go is 248 miles. PEUGEOT’s E-3008 and E-5008 models far surpass this, with the E-3008 Long Range allowing drivers to travel 435 miles from its 97kWh battery on a single charge, and the 73kWh version providing up to 326 miles (WLTP Combined Cycle). Likewise, the standard E-5008 is capable of up to 310 miles on a single charge, increasing to 414 miles in the Long Range version (WLTP Combined Cycle).
Nicola Dobson, Managing Director of PEUGEOT UK, said: “Every parent wants to avoid the dreaded ‘are we nearly there yet?’ questions from the back seats, so being able to keep kids entertained on the road has always been a priority. It’s undeniable how important tech is for everyone today, especially when you’re on a long road trip. PEUGEOT’s models, including the new 3008 and 5008, have been designed with tech and innovation in mind. With features such as ChatGPT® integration, we hope to provide parents and children with added support to make the most of every journey.”
